The Hilo Orchid Society has presented a $7,697 check to Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center. The funds were raised during the Preview Party of the 62nd Annual Hilo Orchid Show. Held July 31 at the Edith Kanaka‘ole Stadium, the zero-waste benefit featured fine wines and beer, catered food, live music and orchid sales.
“This was by far the best Preview Party ever, with our biggest turnout to date,” said Ku‘ikahi Executive Director Julie Mitchell. “We are so grateful to the Hilo Orchid Society for their continued support. A big mahalo to president Larry Kuekes, show chair Sheryl Rawson, and treasurer Bill Rawson. As a nonprofit organization, we absolutely rely on these kinds of collaborations and partnerships.”
Since 1983, Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center has helped to bring about peaceful resolutions to conflicts in our community — first as a program of the Hawai‘i Island YMCA, and from 2005 as an independent nonprofit organization. Ku‘ikahi is the sole community mediation center serving East Hawaii, and one of only five in the state.
“These funds will truly make a difference in helping us provide vital conflict resolution services,” Mitchell noted.
Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center is located in The Hilo Lagoon Centre and can be reached at 935-7844 or www.hawaiimediation.org.
